After an incredibly eventful 24 hours which saw his brand new album, Evangeline vs. The Machine, get prematurely leaked via Apple Music, Eric Church was forced to reveal the record in an impromptu nature via his fan club, “The Church Choir.” Despite the less-than-satisfying reveal of Church’s first album in four years, fans (myself included) were overjoyed to finally receive new music.
In addition to the awkward album rollout, the “Springsteen” singer released his brand-new single, “Hands Of Time.” The track, which feels like a bit of a return to form for Church that harkens back to the early days of the 10x Grammy nominee, is sure to be a crowd-pleaser and serves as a phenomenal taste of what’s to come.
Minutes ago, Church took to Instagram to share a video reflecting on his inspiration behind the brand-new track:
Church, who is now 47, opened up about the need to find things that draw him back to his youth which served as inspiration for the track, “‘Hands of Time’ is interesting because as I get older, I’m looking for things that make me feel not as old. And for ‘Hands of Time,’ I really can honestly say that when I hear music or a movie or something, those things, when I see something from my past, I feel like I did then. I relate to what it was then. And there’s a line in the song, ‘How do you handle the hands of time?'”
The “Record Year” singer then went on to note the impact of the plethora of different artists and songs mentioned throughout which includes the likes of Bob Seger’s “Hollywood Nights,” AC/DC’s “Back In Black” and Waylon Jenning’s “Luckenbach, Texas:”
“I really believe that a good way to handle that is with music with Seger and with ‘Hollywood Nights’ and every line of the song. But I think that that’s a way I handle it. I think it was an interesting concept from a writing standpoint, to come in and handle it that way. I think it’s pretty good advice for people as they age to find things that make them feel younger, and that’s what this song is all about.”
Evangeline vs. The Machine is slated for a May 2nd release and contains eight songs, including “Hands Of Time” and the previously-released, “Darkest Hour.”
