After nearly two decades as the host of American Country Countdown, Kix Brooks has officially announced that he is stepping away from the role, citing his desire to focus on writing, recording and touring more regularly.
Primarily known for being the other half of Brooks & Dunn, Brooks took over as host of the beloved show in January 2006 and has since provided close to two decades of insightful interviews with fellow artists, exposure to up-and-coming acts and a continued love for traditional aspects of the genre.
For Brooks, his 18 years as host will always be an honor, “I never dreamed I would be asked to host a legendary international radio show like ‘American Country Countdown’. The fact that I have been supported by hundreds of affiliates and an amazing team of radio professionals for 18 years has made this one of the greatest experiences of my professional life. It’s time to turn my primary focus back to writing, recording and touring with Brooks & Dunn. It’s been an honor, to say the least, that I was trusted with a microphone that had such an iconic history. Special thanks to all the fans who listened and participated, to ensure that I was being the best that I could be. Keep counting ‘em down!”
The “My Maria” singer has broadcast American Country Countdown to more than 300 station affiliates via Westwood One over the past 18 years, procuring multiple awards throughout his career. With three CMA Awards for National Broadcast Personality of the Year, Brooks became the first person ever to receive a CMA Award as both an artist and broadcaster. He additionally won an ACM Radio Award in 2021 for “National Personality.”
The announcement comes after an incredibly successful month for Brooks & Dunn which included a CMA Win for Duo of the Year, their first in 17 years, as well as the release of Reboot II which features the likes of reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year, Morgan Wallen, Jelly Roll, Riley Green and more.
Brooks’ final broadcast will air on the year’s final weekend on December 28-29. As of now, his replacement has yet to be announced.
