Back on January 14, former CMA Entertainer of the Year winner, Luke Combs, took to Instagram to tease a brand new acoustic song, “The Man He Sees in Me.” The track quickly caught the ears of many fans, garnering over 230,000 likes and 31,000 shares on Instagram alone.
The Hurricane singer opened the video by noting how he was on “dad duty” with his son, Beau, and how fans loved his “dad songs” that were present on his previous album, Gettin’ Old.
Flashforward to this morning, Combs teased a studio version of the song with the caption, “Is this heading in the right direction y’all?”
To say it’s heading in the right direction would be an understatement; the song has #1 hit potential written all over it. With 18 straight #1 hits to start his career, “The Man He Sees in Me” looks to continue the North Carolina singer/songwriter’s monumental success over the past 7 years.
Written by Combs and Josh Phillips for Combs’ two sons, the song further documents his journey into fatherhood present on tracks such as “Even Though I’m Leaving,” ” Take You With Me” and “Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old.”
The chorus, in particular, is sure to resonate with any new father who’s grappling with the fact that he’s going to constantly face the pressure of being the man that his son views him as.
“I hope he never finds out that I didn’t hang the moon
And I’ve never scared a monster out the closet in his room
Someday between him leaving home and driving on my knee
Maybe I’ll finally be, the man he sees in me”
As of writing, the song has no release date.
