“I’ve been afraid of changing because I built my life around you.”
Fresh off of their first-ever ACM Award nomination for Group of the Year, Flatland Cavalry is back with a highly-anticipated cover of the classic Fleetwood Mac track from 1975, “Landslide.” The cover has been a staple during their current Wandering Star tour, being played at nearly every show primarily acoustically by frontman, Cleto Cordero.
Flatland has also recently been teasing the cover on their social media, prompting fans to beg for some sort of release.
While the cover is not available on streaming services yet, fans of the “Mountain Song” band are one step closer to getting an official release of the Fleetwood Mac track. Today, they posted a performance of the song live from the legendary Ryman Auditorium.
While it might sound like hyperbole to say that it’s one of the greatest covers I’ve ever heard, I don’t think it’s an incredible stretch. Cordero’s vocals suit “Landslide” perfectly. He strikes the perfect blend of tenderness and strength in his vocal performance, feeling extremely similar to Stevie Nick’s original performance.
Cordero even went as far as to incorporate the beginning of the chorus of their certified gold track, “A Life Where We Work Out” into the final verse. It takes guts to incorporate different lyrics into a song as iconic as “Landslide,” but Cordero did it so effortlessly that it feels as if it was made to be included in the song.
“I took my love and I took it down
I climbed a mountain and I turned around
If life is only ups and downs
Then maybe you’ll come back around
In a life where we work out”
