One of the greatest songs in history, from one of the most legendary rock bands to ever exist, performed by one of the most popular artists in country music today.
During his music city toy drive that helped benefit families in need for the holiday season this past November, Jelly Roll gave a free performance at a Walmart in Antioch, Tennessee for anyone who donated an unwrapped and unopened toy.
During the performance, Jelly Roll covered what is still considered by many as one of the most legendary songs ever recorded, even though it was released over 50 years ago…
The 1973 iconic hit, “Simple Man” is still one of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s most popular songs to date. Since it became available for digital download, it has become the southern rock band’s third best-selling digital song after “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Free Bird.”
Written by original lead singer, Ronnie Van Zant, along with guitarist Gary Rossington, the track was inspired by Zant’s grandmother and comes in at a hefty 5 minutes and 57 seconds.
Jelly Roll has covered Simple Man at many of his shows in the past, including an October performance where he was gifted one of the late Gary Rossington’s guitars by Ronnie’s brother and current touring frontman, Johnny Van Zant, as well as the only other living member before the tragic plane crash, Rickey Medlocke.
For fans who haven’t yet been able to attend a Jelly Roll concert to witness this song performed live, you’re in luck…
