Whoa, this is different.
Earlier today, Post Malone released his “Live From The Studio” sessions featuring a compilation of reimagined versions of a ton of songs from his debut country album, “F-1 Trillion,” as well as some of his past hits such as “Congratulations” and “Circles.”
The new Youtube session features a total of 13 songs that were all recorded in one sitting back on August 20th and only features his live band – a break from the plethora of collaborations seen on his recent record.
While I haven’t had a chance to get through ALL 13 of the live videos as of this very moment, the one that has stood out the most to me so far is his massive collaboration with Morgan Wallen on “I Had Some Help.”
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve heard the Spotify crowned “Song of the Summer” from Post and Wallen at least a hundred times. And while the story line of “I Had Some Help” is a little on the sad side, the production and delivery on the original were FAR from it. However, that’s not the case this go around. Post matches the music with the lyrics, and delivers a more raw, emotional performance, and although this version wouldn’t have earned him the “song of the summer” nod from the world’s biggest streaming platform, I like this version a lot better.
Don’t get me wrong, Post and Wallen did exactly what they set out to do with “I Had Some Help,” and that was make an upbeat, catchy pop-country song that would put up monstrous streaming numbers. However, the biggest complaint from music fans was that it was way to overproduced. With this version, the tempo is slowed down and all of the instruments just have room to breathe. Plus, there’s some steel and violin in it.
